Economic Graph Research Institute
Research programs aimed to address the challenges and opportunities in today’s dynamic economic landscape.
LinkedIn’s vision is to create economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce. The Economic Graph Research Institute (EGRI) works in support of this vision, utilizing LinkedIn’s unparalleled data to conduct research that brings us closer to this goal. Our greatest strength lies in the depth of our data, alongside our team of committed researchers who delve into pressing issues affecting the global workforce.
Our research covers a wide range of topics impacting workers, government policy, and firms. However, we have particular focuses around three key research programs: Macroeconomics, AI & Skills, and Equity. These programs are made possible through robust data foundations.
We work with several key partners and stakeholders. These include government policy makers, firms, other research institutes, and academic researchers. Our impact is shown through publications such as white papers and research notes, newsletters with timely data insights, aggregated data metrics and indicators, and more.
Macroeconomics Research Program
The Macroeconomics Research Program is a cornerstone of EGRI’s research initiatives. We recognize that the labor market is a fundamental component of the global economy, influencing everything from individual livelihoods to national economic health. Utilizing LinkedIn’s vast data resources, our dedicated team of researchers delve into the complexities of labor market dynamics on a macro scale. We examine trends in employment, workforce participation, job match, and more, and analyze how these factors interact with broader economic indicators. Our goal is to provide insights that can inform policy decisions and contribute to a more efficient and equitable labor market. Program lead: Kory Kantenga

AI & Skills Research Program
The AI & Skills Research Program is a pivotal part of EGRI’s research portfolio, focusing on the ever-evolving landscape of skills in the global workforce. In today’s rapidly changing job market, understanding the role of skills in career advancement as well as shifts in the demand and supply of skills is crucial. Our team leverages LinkedIn’s rich data to identify emerging skills, track their growth, and understand their distribution across industries and geographies. We also study the impact of skill gaps on individuals and economies, and explore ways to bridge these gaps through education and training. Our research aims to empower individuals to make informed career decisions and equip policymakers and educators with the insights needed to build a future-ready workforce. Equity Research Program
Our Equity Research Program is at the heart of EGRI’s commitment to creating a fair and inclusive global workforce. We believe that everyone, regardless of their background, deserves equal access to economic opportunities. Through this program, we leverage LinkedIn’s extensive data to uncover disparities in the job market and understand the barriers that prevent individuals from realizing their full potential. We explore outcomes such as employment, leadership, networks, and occupation and industry choice. This analysis applied to several dimensions, including gender, race, age, educational attainment, the communities people are in, and more.
Our research informs policies and practices that promote diversity, inclusion, and equity in the workplace. By shedding light on these issues, we aim to drive meaningful change and ensure that every member of the global workforce has an equal chance to succeed. Program lead: Matthew Baird.
